A Retreat Hall with Hinged Shutters

The Jakkoin Temple Zuigudo Hall (寂光院随求堂) is a house-like hall used for retreats of 1805 in Tsugao, Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on July 12, 2005 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber hall with a tiled roof and a building area of 64 square metres; registration number 23-0197.

A House-Like Exterior of Hinged Shutters

The Zuigudo of Jakkoin faces east to the west of the main hall and is linked to it by a corridor (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is five bays by three under a hip-and-gable roof of plain tiles with single-layer eaves, with a veranda all round edged by a railing with bronze-capped posts.

Its pillars are square, the floor is raised high, and the veranda rests on carved bracket boards (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The house-like exterior, with many hinged lattice shutters around it, shows its role as a hall for retreats.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered the hall as a model of design.
