A Timber Bank with a Western Front

The former Owada Bank Head Office Building stands in central Tsuruga: a two-storey timber building with a gabled roof of pantiles and its entrance on the long side (Agency for Cultural Affairs). A parapet raised along the front makes the roof look flat, and rows of tall rectangular windows give it a Western appearance.

At the front are the customer hall and banking room, with reception rooms on either side and Japanese-style rooms behind (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape, as a surviving head office of a regional bank that shapes the street.
