Kobe University Rokkodai Campus

The Kobe University Rokkodai Campus (神戸大学六甲台キャンパス) in Rokkodaicho, Nada Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, keeps five buildings put up between 1932 and 1935 by the former Kobe University of Commerce, one of the university's forerunners, which became Registered Tangible Cultural Properties (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Main Building, the Auditorium, the Library and the Kanematsu Memorial Hall were registered on March 18, 2003, and the Martial Arts Hall on August 13, 2012 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Five Buildings

The Main Building of 1932 has wings behind a symmetrical front, faced with scratch tiles and edged with a Lombard band below the eaves. The Auditorium of 1935 shares its design and presents a front of five great arches, with doors decorated with ships' wheels (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Humanities and Social Sciences Library of 1933 has an arched great reading room and a stained-glass skylight, and the Kanematsu Memorial Hall of 1934, designed by the Ministry of Education, has a chequer-tiled stair hall. The Martial Arts Hall of 1935 is a hip-and-gable timber dojo at the north-west corner of the campus (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each building is described on its own page.

Visiting

All five are owned by Kobe University (Agency for Cultural Affairs). No official information on campus visits or access to the buildings was found.
