Two Staggered Wings by the River
The Fujitaya Ryokan Main Building is made of two two-storey timber wings, east and west, set in a staggered line with a hip-and-gable entrance between them (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Guest rooms, mostly of eight mats, line the river behind railed verandas, and their alcoves and transoms are decorated with delicate latticework and openwork carving.
In the east wing, small canopies in a variety of sukiya designs shelter the room entrances (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Why It Was Registered
The Agency calls it an inn that lends the hot-spring town its travel mood and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
