About Jokoji Temple (Yasuda)
Jokoji Temple (Yasuda) comprises the gate and study hall of Jokoji at Yasuda, Yasuda Town, Aki District, Kochi Prefecture, both of the late Taisho era (1912–1925), registered together as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties (structures) on December 5, 2007 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
According to the Agency for Cultural Affairs database, the same Yasuda district also has registered buildings such as the Kawata Store and Main House of the Meiji era, the Tsutoya Store and Main House of 1933, the Former Ichikawa Clinic of 1913 and the Former Kashiwara Residence of the early Showa era.
Two Structures
The gate, opening toward the north end of the west side of the grounds, has square reinforced-concrete posts spanned by an iron segmental arch carrying a gate lamp, with a matching side gate to the south. Dentils decorate the posts below their caps, and the Agency for Cultural Affairs presents it as an example of a modern temple front gate.
The study hall in the centre of the grounds is a single-storey wooden building under a hipped pantiled roof, with a six-mat sukiya-style room with an alcove and shelves, a four-mat anteroom and board verandas on the east and west. The Agency for Cultural Affairs describes it as small but calm and composed.
