The former Hirano Honten shop and main house, a two-storey timber building of around 1921, faces east on the corner where the Higashihama and Kesennuma roads meet; it was extended around 1933 and altered around 1963 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
It combines a Western-style shop to the south with a hipped, iron-roofed house to the north. The shop is finished with flair, with a row of round-arched windows upstairs and a large parapet. The Agency notes that it is loved as a local landmark.
