About the Bujoji Nio Gate

The Bujoji Nio Gate (峰定寺仁王門) is the gate of Bujoji on Mount Daihi in Hanase, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, built in 1350 and designated an Important Cultural Property on February 18, 1904. It is a three-bay, single-passage gate on eight pillars with a hip-and-gable shingle roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Designated

The Bujoji Nio Gate was designated an Important Cultural Property in 1904. According to the Kyoto City Tourism Association, the temple keeps wooden guardian kings of 1163, also an Important Cultural Property, though they are not generally on view.
