Choseikan

The Choseikan (潮生館) in Shida, Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is the inn that laid the foundations of Shida Onsen, and its main building of 1939 and the Kobaiso pavilion of 1933 were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on November 8, 2004 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Two Buildings

The main building is a two-storey hip-and-gable structure with an entrance porch projecting at the west end of its south front. The ground floor has a large board-floored hall and the front desk, and upstairs the guest rooms line an L-shaped corridor, each finished with curved and twisted timbers (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Kobaiso is a single-storey pavilion by the pond north-west of the main building, with an 8-mat main room, a 6-mat anteroom, a small 6-mat room and a 3-mat waiting room. Its walls, inside and out, are pale pink plaster decorated with plum blossoms (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Both were registered as models of form (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The pavilion, six years older than the main building, and their arrangement around the pond convey the setting of an early Showa hot spring inn.

Visiting

The Agency's database does not list the owner, and no official information on current business or visiting was found. Each building is described on its own page.
