A Tall Mountain Store on the Old Road
The Kawai General Store (河井百貨店) is a general store of 1934 in Higashiiya Kyojo, Miyoshi City, Tokushima Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on September 10, 2019 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey timber building with a metal roof, covering 129 square metres, extended in the mid-Showa period and altered later in the Showa period; registration number 36-197.
A Large Townhouse Facing the Road
The Kawai General Store is a former store for daily goods in the centre of Higashiiya: a two-storey building under a hip-and-gable sheet-metal roof, facing south onto the old road, with a separate wing attached on the west (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The whole ground floor is an earth-floored shop, and upstairs three rooms are lined up with verandas on the south and east (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
