A Small Gate with a Bell Above
The Renkoji Temple Gate (蓮光寺山門) is a gate with a belfry of the late Edo period (1751 to 1829) in Ishii, Ishii Town, Myozai District, Tokushima Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on August 7, 2009 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a timber gate with a tiled roof and an area of 6.3 square metres; registration number 36-0078.
A Two-Storey Gate Hung with a Bell
The Renkoji Temple Gate is a two-storey gate one bay wide at the centre of the south side of the precinct, with a bell hung in the upper storey (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It has a hip-and-gable roof of hongawara tiles, square posts 2.6 metres apart and doors set toward the front.
The upper storey has round columns, three-block brackets with frog-leg struts between them and two tiers of closely set rafters (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Its veranda rests on brackets and is edged with railings topped by inverted-lotus finials.
