The Storehouse along the East Road

Seigyoku Sake Storehouse B (勢玉酒蔵B) is a single-storey timber sake storehouse of about 1902 in Fukushima, Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on August 23, 1999 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber building with a tile roof and a building area of 85 square metres; registration number 36-0019.

A Single-Storey Storehouse on the East Road

Seigyoku Sake Storehouse B is a single-storey storehouse standing north of Storehouse A (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is said to have been built together with Storehouse A when the brewery was founded, and the Agency dates it to about 1902.

Seigyoku Sake Storehouse B presents its long side, the one parallel to the ridge, to the road along the east of the site (Agency for Cultural Affairs). With a building area of 85 square metres, it is less than half the size of the two-storey Storehouse A.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency for Cultural Affairs registered Seigyoku Sake Storehouse B as a structure that contributes to the historic landscape of the nation. On the street side its design matches Storehouse A, with the lower wall faced in battened boards, while on the yard side it has a deep Hisashi eave that gave the brewers covered space to work (Agency for Cultural Affairs). One face answers the street, the other the daily work of the brewery.

What to Look For

Seigyoku Sake Storehouse B is best viewed from the east road, along its long side. The Koshiita boarding at the base of the wall is held by vertical battens, the same finish used on Storehouse A to the south (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

On the yard side, the deep eave was built as covered working space (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The contrast between the boarded street wall and the open eave on the inner side shows Seigyoku Sake Storehouse B as a working building.

Visiting

Seigyoku Sake Storehouse B stands north of Storehouse A along the east road, and its exterior can be seen from the street. Official sources do not say whether the yard-side eave can be seen by visitors or what the interior is used for today.

No official guidance on photography was found. Opening hours and parking are covered on the Seigyoku Sake Brewery page.
