Gotoh Museum
The Gotoh Museum (五島美術館) in Kaminoge, Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, is an art museum whose main building of 1960 and two tea houses on its grounds, the Kokyoro of 1922 and the Fujimitei of 1957, were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on October 27, 2017 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). They are owned by the Gotoh Museum foundation.
The Three Buildings
The main building marked the 77th birthday of Goto Keita, founder of the Tokyu railway; it is a major work of Yoshida Isoya, who drew on the shinden palaces of the Heian court and rendered them in reinforced concrete. The Kokyoro is a shoin hall built by the politician Den Kenjiro for a visit by the Crown Prince, to which Goto Keita added a small tea room copied from one at Kodaiji. The Fujimitei is a tea house from Goto Keita's last years, for seated or standing tea, opening south to Mount Fuji (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is described on its own page.
Visiting
According to the museum's website, it is open from 10:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:30) and closed on Mondays (the next weekday after a public holiday) and between exhibitions. Entry to the garden alone costs 300 yen, and the museum is 5 minutes on foot from Kaminoge Station on the Tokyu Oimachi Line. No official information on access to the inside of the Kokyoro and Fujimitei was found.
