A Large Farmhouse with a Raised Ridge Vent
Megumiso at Shirayuri University is the main house of a village headman's family, moved here from Shuzenji in Izu (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a single-storey timber house with a pantiled roof topped by a raised ridge vent.
An earth-floored area lies to the left, with a thick central pillar at its boundary with the main room (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The raised floor follows a six-room plan, with a veranda around the two front tatami rooms, and the middle room keeps traces of a formal entrance step.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency notes it as a large farmhouse of a kind now rare even in its original area, and registered it as a model of design.
