The Storehouse Behind the Main House
The Muramatsu Family Residence Archive Storehouse (村松家住宅文庫蔵) is an archive storehouse of the early Meiji era in Momozono, Minami Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on January 31, 2003 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a 2-storey earthen-walled storehouse with a tiled roof and a building area of 22 square metres; registration number 19-0043.
Linked to the Main House
The Muramatsu Family Residence Archive Storehouse stands north of the main house (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It measures 3 and a half ken by 2 ken (1 ken is about 1.8 metres) and is a 2-storey storehouse entered on its long side, under a gabled roof with an east-west ridge. The roof is an Okiyane, built as a separate structure set over the plastered body of the storehouse.
From the family altar room of the main house, a connecting room 1 and a half ken square runs north under a two-sided roof and forms the space in front of the storehouse door (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Muramatsu Family Residence Archive Storehouse later also served as living quarters for a retired head of the family.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered the Muramatsu Family Residence Archive Storehouse for its contribution to the historic landscape, and regards it as indispensable to the back garden that opens behind the main house.
What to Look For
On the Muramatsu Family Residence Archive Storehouse, look at the separate roof set over the storehouse and at the way it is tied to the main house. A route from the altar room through the connecting room to the storehouse door puts the family's stored papers and valuables right behind the private rooms, which suits its later use as retirement quarters.
Visiting
The Muramatsu Family Residence Archive Storehouse stands at the back of a private estate, north of the main house, and no official information on public access was found (checked October 2026). It is hard to see from the road; please do not enter the grounds.
