Japan Ceramic Center

The Japan Ceramic Center (日本陶磁器センター) in Daikancho, Higashi Ward, Nagoya, the home of a ceramics organization, keeps two office buildings, the Old Building of 1934 and the New Building of 1958, both registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on August 4, 2015 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Both are owned by the Japan Ceramic Association.

Nagoya City also lists both buildings among the registered cultural properties of the city.

The Two Buildings

The Old Building is a reinforced-concrete office of 1934 that was moved in 1957 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Ceramics, especially tiles, are used generously inside and out, and its large meeting room has Art Deco details.

The New Building is a steel-framed reinforced-concrete office of 1958, a modernist design with wide areas of glass (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Like the Old Building, it makes generous use of regional tiles. Each building is described on its own page.
