A Gate Facing the Main Hall

The Nyoiji Temple Gate is a four-legged gate opening on the east side of the precinct, directly in front of the main hall, with a gabled pantiled roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Its main posts are round, set on stone footings, and carry double panelled doors; the rear supporting posts are square.

The bracket sets are simple, with flat bracket sets on the lintel and frog-leg struts on the tie beams of the rear posts between them (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The gables have vase-shaped struts with scrolled side pieces, the eaves have two tiers of closely spaced rafters, and the inside has a fine coffered ceiling.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered the gate, set squarely before the main hall, for its contribution to the historic landscape.
