A Prewar Library Wrapped in Post-War Modernism
The Taki Gakuen Library (滝学園図書館) is a library with a post-war modernist upper floor of 1933 in Higashinocho Komeno, Konan City, Aichi Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on June 28, 2017 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey reinforced-concrete library, partly steel-reinforced concrete, with a steel-sheet roof and a building area of 307 square metres, extended in 1965; registration number 23-0493.
A Facade of Vertical Louvres
The library of Taki Gakuen adjoins the east side of the auditorium (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The ground floor is the library built at the same time as the auditorium and keeps traces of its reading room and counter.
The upper floor, added over it, shows post-war modernism well, with a facade of vertical louvres and a bright reading room with broad windows (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
