A Meiji House in Yajima's Samurai Quarter
Hachimorien (八森苑) is a house in the old samurai quarter of about 1877 in Yajimamachi Yajimamachi, Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 2, 2004 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a timber house, single-storey and partly two, with a copper roof and a building area of 345 square metres, extended at the end of the Taisho period; registration number 05-0097.
A Curved Gable and a Wing of Fine Woods
Hachimorien stands in the old samurai quarter at the centre of Yajima (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a single-storey hipped house entered from the long side, with batten-and-board lower walls and a gently curved gable over the front entrance.
At the north-east corner of the back, a fully two-storey wing is joined at a right angle, and fine timbers are used throughout its interior (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
