The Bishamondō of Takaderain Temple in Yamae Village, Kumamoto Prefecture, is a three-bay Buddhist hall built in 1655 and registered as a national Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Featuring distinctive thick rafters with pronounced upward curvature unique to the Kuma region, this modest yet elegant hall serves as an important chronological benchmark among the many surviving medieval and early modern temple buildings in the area. Located within the grounds of the oldest temple in the Kuma District, the hall once enshrined nationally designated Important Cultural Property Bishamonten statues.

Standing in the historic post town of Hamamachi in Yamato, Kumamoto Prefecture, the Tsūjun Shuzō Shop and Main House is the largest surviving townhouse of the Hyūga Kaidō post town and was entered on Japan's National Register of Tangible Cultural Properties in 2021. Its earthen-walled shop and timber main house meet at right angles, producing a striking chidori-hafu-like façade of exceptional craftsmanship. Founded in 1770, the brewery still operates today, offering free tours and tastings, along with stories of Saigō Takamori's lodging during the Satsuma Rebellion and a direct tie to the famous Tsūjun Bridge.

Standing along the Tsuboi River in Kumamoto's Shinmachi district, the Tominaga Photo Studio is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property founded by Meiji-era photographer Tominaga Rihei. Preserving its rare slant-roofed photography room, this historic wooden building holds an invaluable photographic record of modern Japan, from Kumamoto Castle before its destruction to portraits of Natsume Sōseki.

Founded in 1874 in Kumamoto's historic Shinmachi district, Nagasaki Jiro Bookstore is one of Kyushu's most storied bookshops. Its 1924 building, designed by architect Yasuoka Katsuya, is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Once visited by literary giants Mori Ogai and Natsume Soseki, the second-floor café offers specialty coffee with views of passing tram cars.

The Japanese Evangelical Lutheran Kumamoto Church, located in central Kumamoto City, is a wooden church designed by architect William Merrell Vories in 1950. Featuring a hammer-beam truss roof, pointed-arch openings, and a spired corner tower, this Gothic-inspired timber structure was registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property in 2019. A symbol of postwar reconstruction beloved by the local community, it stands as one of Vories's final architectural masterworks.

The stone torii gate of Bairin Tenmangu Shrine in Tamana City, Kumamoto, is a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property built in 1659. Standing 4.8 meters tall, this myojin-style gate features uniquely carved dairin-style column tops and exceptionally thick pillars reflecting Kyushu regional craftsmanship. The shrine, founded in 936, also offers yabusame horseback archery and beautiful plum blossoms.
