A Black-Trimmed Storehouse in Nagareyama
The Sasaya Storehouse (笹屋土蔵) is a storehouse on the old main street of 1898 in Nagareyama, Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on October 7, 2014 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a two-storey earthen-walled storehouse with a tiled roof and a building area of 29 square metres, renovated in 2012; registration number 12-0180.
White Walls with Black Bands
The Sasaya Storehouse is a two-storey earthen-walled building 6.4 metres by 4.5 metres, its ridge running east to west under a gabled tile roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The doorway in the west gable end has double earthen doors.
The walls are plastered white, with the band below the eaves and the base picked out in black plaster (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Inside, the roof frame uses double tie beams with two tiers of lengthwise beams set under the ridge. Chiba Prefecture lists it as privately owned.
