Its hip-and-gable roof continues that of the gate, running east to west, and the projection to the north has its own hip-and-gable roof. A stone-dropping opening wraps around the southwest corner (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records that it was rebuilt in timber in 1971. According to Matsuyama City, the Tsutsui Gate and its turrets had been lost to arson in 1949.
Why It Was Registered
The Agency notes that, with the Tonashi Gate to the west, it forms a distinctive box-shaped gate court, and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.
What to Look For
Look for the stone-dropping opening around the southwest corner and the turret's relation to the Tonashi Gate to the west (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
