A Japanese-Style Parsonage beside the Chapel

The Saijo Eiko Church Parsonage (西条栄光教会牧師館) is a parsonage designed throughout in Japanese style of 1951 in Akeyashiki, Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on February 26, 2021 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a two-storey timber house with a tiled roof and a building area of 79 square metres; registration number 38-152.

A Parsonage of Lattices and Paper Screens

The parsonage is joined to the south of the chapel by a covered passage; it is a two-storey building under a gabled roof of pantiles, with cedar boarding below and exposed timber framing above (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

A dining room and living room open around the entrance, which doubles as a full-height stair hall, with a meeting room and bedrooms upstairs (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Inside and out, plaster with exposed timber, lattices and paper screens give it a consistent Japanese style.
