Sasaki Shuzo

Sasaki Shuzo (佐々木酒造) in Sozu, Tobe Town, Iyo District, Ehime Prefecture, is a sake brewery on the old highway through the village whose main house of around 1908 and brick chimney of the late Meiji period were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on March 2, 2004 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Two Structures

The main house, facing east onto the old highway, is a shop and house about seven bays wide with exposed framing, a central shop entrance, a projecting lattice window and distinctive brackets under the ground-floor eaves. The brick chimney at the south end of the brewery south-west of the house tapers gently to a corbelled, capital-like top about 20 metres up and is a landmark seen from the national road (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is described on its own page.
