Torihama Shuzo

Torihama Shuzo is a sake brewery in Torihama, Wakasa Town, Fukui Prefecture, whose shop and brewery of 1920 and brick chimney of the early Showa period were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on October 28, 2011 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency notes that the great stepped roof, together with the chimney standing by the street, makes a picture of a traditional sake brewery.

The Two Properties

The shop and brewery faces south at the centre of the plot: a two-storey storehouse-style brewery with a hipped roof, with the shop and workroom to the south and the office to the west under lean-to roofs (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The chimney, 13 metres high and built of brick, stands by the road south of the brewery and is linked by an underground flue to the rice steamer (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and is covered on its own page.

Visiting

No official information on brewery visits or on the shop's business was found. The chimney stands by the street and can be seen from outside.
