A Restrained Offering Hall

The offering hall, of 1929, stands north to south in front of the main hall, 3 bays by 3 bays, hip-and-gable and entered from the gable end, with a copper roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Openings at the centre of the front and back are flanked by lattice windows over board dados, and a veranda runs around it.

Square posts carry plain three-bearing brackets, and the eaves have doubled close-set rafters. The Agency notes its sober design, with carving only on the beam ends.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency registered it as a model of design.

What to Look For

At the offering hall, look for the lattice windows over board dados and the restraint of its carving, limited to the beam ends (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
