A Brick Storehouse with Earthen-Storehouse Details
The Former Katsuyamasha Brick Storehouse (旧勝山社煉瓦蔵) is a two-storey brick storehouse of the Meiji period in Honmachi, Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture, which in 2008 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a tiled roof and a building area of 45 square metres; it was registered for its contribution to the historic landscape.
The Agency describes a gable-entry brick storehouse 8.8 by 5.1 metres.
Structure
According to the Agency, it has a gabled pantiled roof and English-bond brick walls, with the thick bands under the eaves and window surrounds of a traditional earthen storehouse.
The front entrance was altered later. The roof is framed with king-post trusses.
What to Look For
The Agency notes its high eaves and solid appearance. A brick building that borrows the details of a traditional earthen storehouse is what makes it distinctive.
