A Standard Station Building of 1923

The Former JNR Tomiuchi Line Tomiuchi Station Building (旧国鉄富内線富内駅舎) is a timber station building of 1923 in Hobetsu-Tomiuchi, Mukawa, Yufutsu District, Hokkaido, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on August 28, 2001 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber building with a sheet-iron roof and a building area of 91 square metres; registration number 01-0035.

The Station House of a Mining Railway

The Former JNR Tomiuchi Line Tomiuchi Station Building was built as a station on the Kanayama Line of the Hokkaido Mining Railway, begun in 1920 to open up and carry out mineral resources (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The line ran from Tomakomai through Hobetsu to Kanayama and later became the JNR Tomiuchi Line.

It is a single-storey building with a gabled roof, its waiting room, office and tatami-floored night-duty room set in a row (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Agency describes it as a station house of standard design.

Why It Was Registered

What the Agency singles out is the points-lever cabin that projects to the left of the ticket barrier. It keeps, in the shape of the building, the means by which staff changed the points in the yard from inside the station.

Registered for its contribution to the historic landscape, it shows a standard station house with the equipment this particular station needed added on.

What to Look For

Look for the points-lever cabin jutting out to the left of the ticket barrier (Agency for Cultural Affairs). From the platform side, it is the one part of the flat wall that steps forward.

The single row of waiting room, office and night-duty room can be traced from outside by following the windows and doors.

Visiting

The outside of the building can be seen at any time from the yard. No official information on opening hours for the interior was found.
