Ryotei Bunichiro

Ryotei Bunichiro is a restaurant inn in the former merchants' quarter of the old castle town of Miki, Hyogo Prefecture, whose old building of 1924 and new building of the early Showa period were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on May 10, 2018 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

It stands at the end of winding lanes, and the Agency notes that the two buildings together convey the restaurant inns that flourished in towns before the war.

The Two Buildings

The old building has a hip-and-gabled banquet-hall wing entered at the gable end and a guest-room wing; the banquet hall is in a dignified shoin manner, and each guest room has its own sukiya or rustic character (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The new building is a guest-room wing joined by a covered corridor to the back of the old one, with five rooms off a T-shaped corridor under umbrella-shaped and wicker ceilings (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and is covered on its own page.

Getting There
