Murai Jozo
Murai Jozo (村井醸造) in Makabecho Makabe, Sakuragawa City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is the sake brewery of the Murai family, brewers in the centre of Makabe since around the mid-Edo period; its early Meiji shop, a side storehouse built before 1902, a Taisho stone storehouse and an early Showa chimney were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties in 2000 and 2004 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Four Structures
The large plastered shop facing the gate from Kamijuku street is the heart of the brewery, with white plaster above clapboard. A 22-metre concrete chimney stands between it and a storehouse. The side storehouse, once a grain store, shapes the corner with cut-stone footings and a board base, and across the road the stone storehouse is a warehouse twelve bays long with a timber frame wrapped in Oya stone (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is described on its own page.
Visiting
The owner is not listed in the Agency record. These are buildings of a working brewery, and no official information on visits was found.
