Hiraki Family Main House

Located in the Kikugawa neighborhood of Kanazawa, the Hiraki Family Residence Main House is a late Edo-period samurai dwelling built in the former ashigaru (foot soldier) district of the Kaga Domain's castle town. This two-story wooden structure of approximately 102 square meters features a southern garden, western street frontage, and an eastern irrigation canal, preserving the distinctive layout of Kanazawa's warrior-class housing. Registered as a national Tangible Cultural Property in 2004, it stands as a rare surviving example of how Japan's wealthiest feudal domain housed even its lowest-ranking samurai in detached homes with gardens.
