A Small Storehouse Behind the House

The Hatta Family Residence South Storehouse (Kanazawa) (八田家住宅南蔵) is a storehouse of 1890 in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on November 8, 2004 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a two-storey earthen-walled storehouse with a tiled roof and a building area of 30 square metres; registration number 17-0115.

A Storehouse Beside the Main House

The Hatta Family Residence South Storehouse stands against the southwest side of the main house and is joined to it by a covered passage (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a two-storey earthen-walled building, 3 and a half bays by 2 and a half, with a separate tiled roof set over the fireproof shell.

The walls are finished with the middle coat of plaster, and the base is built up a step thicker (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes that this small, plain storehouse is nonetheless essential, with the west storehouse, to the composition at the back of the property, and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.

What to Look For

Look for the separate roof set over the walls and the thickened plaster at the base (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Visiting

It is a private home, and no official information on public access was found. The house as a whole is described on the Hatta Family Residence (Kanazawa) page.
