Hatta Family Residence (Kanazawa)

The Hatta Family Residence (八田家住宅) is a farmstead in a village just off the old Hokkoku Road in northern Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, where the main house of 1905, the west storehouse of 1874 and the south storehouse of 1890 were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on November 8, 2004 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a different property from the Hatta Family Residence in Matsushiro, Nagano.

The Three Buildings

The main house is a large gabled farmhouse, 8 bays by 8, built of carefully chosen timber; its great azumadachi gable facing front makes it stand out in the village (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The west storehouse stands apart to the west, linked by an L-shaped covered passage, under an asymmetrical roof swept low to the north. The south storehouse is a small store close against the southwest side of the house, with a separate roof set over its walls (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The Agency notes that the two storehouses give the back of the property its shape. Each building is described on its own page.

Visiting

This is a private home, and no official information on public access was found. Anyone looking from outside should take care not to disturb the residents.
