A Foot Soldier's House in Kanazawa

The Hiraki Family Main House (平木家住宅主屋) is a samurai house of the late Edo period in Kikugawa, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on June 9, 2004 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a two-storey timber house of 102 square metres roofed in sheet iron; registration number 17-0102.

A House in the Old Foot Soldiers' Quarter

The Hiraki Family Main House is one of the samurai houses in the former ashigaru (foot soldiers') quarter of the Kanazawa castle town (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It has a garden to the south, meets the street on the west and faces an irrigation channel on the east.

On the ground floor the entrance is at the south-west corner, with a Buddhist altar room and living room in the middle and, to the east, a reception room and storeroom opening onto a veranda facing the garden (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The upper floor holds living rooms and a storeroom.
