The Founder's Hall of the Keicho Era

The Myojoji Temple Soshido (妙成寺祖師堂) is a founder's hall of about 1596 to 1615 in the precinct of Myojoji Temple in Takidani-machi, Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and was designated an Important Cultural Property on April 14, 1906 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey hall five bays by five, with a hip-and-gable roof of wooden shingles; designation number 00388.

The Hall of the Founder

The Myojoji Temple Soshido stands to the right of the main hall, as you face it, in the row of three halls (temple website). A soshido enshrines the school's founder, and at Nichiren temples it ranks with the main hall as a central building.

The Agency for Cultural Affairs dates it to about 1596 to 1615, the Keicho era.

Why It Is an Important Cultural Property

The Myojoji Temple Soshido was designated with the main hall and the pagoda in 1906. Matching the main hall in size, it forms one wing of the three-hall row.

What to Look For

Like the main hall, it is five bays square under a shingled hip-and-gable roof (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Compare the roofs of the Myojoji Temple Soshido and the main hall side by side to see how evenly the two are matched.
