A Small Station to a Standard Plan

The station building of Koiwai Station on the JR Tazawako Line, south of Koiwai Farm, was built in 1921 and became the gateway to the farm (Agency for Cultural Affairs). A single-storey gabled timber building 17.3 by 4.6 metres, entered from the long side, it has a gabled carriage porch projecting at the west end of the north front.

Its plan almost matches the standard design of the state railways, and the Agency notes that it recalls the bustle of the opening of the Hashiba light railway.
