Kakuonji Temple
Kakuonji Temple (覚園寺) in Nikaido, Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture, has two stone hokyointo pagodas of 1332, the Founder's Pagoda and the Daito Pagoda, designated as an Important Cultural Property on January 30, 1934, a date of designation under the former law (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Both belong to the temple.
The Two Pagodas
Both pagodas are stone hokyointo dated 1332 (Agency for Cultural Affairs), the year before the fall of the Kamakura shogunate, so a matched pair from the very end of the period survives at one temple. The Agency's records carry no commentary; the date and form set out what was designated. Each pagoda is described on its own page.
