Uki City International Exchange Village (Former Misumi Summary Court)

The Uki City International Exchange Village (Former Misumi Summary Court) (宇城市国際交流村) occupies the court buildings of 1920 on a rise overlooking the port at Misumimachi Misumiura, Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture; the main building (Law Hall), records storehouse and waiting rooms were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on May 15, 2007 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). They are owned by Uki City.

Courthouse, Records Store and Waiting Rooms

The main building faces east, a single-storey hipped timber courthouse with a curved-gable porch at the centre and the courtroom in the north-east corner (Agency for Cultural Affairs). With its exposed-post walls it is a fine example of a strongly Japanese-style regional courthouse by the Ministry of Justice. North of it, the waiting rooms are linked by a corridor, and with the two-storey brick records store they show how a district court was laid out.
