Hotoji Temple
Hotoji Temple (寶塔寺), a temple of the Nichiren school in Fukakusa, Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, has three buildings, a tahoto pagoda of 1438, a four-legged main gate of the mid-Muromachi period and a main hall of 1608, each designated an Important Cultural Property (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The temple is revered as the burial place of Nichizo.

The Three Buildings
The pagoda and the gate were designated in 1906 and the main hall in 1984 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The 1906 date is that of their designation under the former law. The main hall, seven bays by seven with a hip-and-gable roof, has an open outer hall and inner posts rising high into the roof space, early modern traits, and the Agency values it as one of the older Nichiren main halls of firmly known date.
The main hall and the pagoda were repaired, and the Kyoto Prefectural Board of Education published a report on the work in 2003. Each building is described on its own page.
