The Oldest Building of the Commercial School

The Nagasaki University Faculty of Economics Warehouse (Former Nagasaki Higher Commercial School Warehouse) (長崎大学経済学部倉庫（旧長崎高等商業学校倉庫）) is the warehouse of a higher commercial school of 1907 in Katafuchi, Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on October 2, 2007 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a two-storey brick building with a tiled roof and a building area of 64 square metres; registration number 42-0067.

The Only Building Left from the Founding

The Faculty of Economics Warehouse, on the west side of the campus, was the warehouse of the Nagasaki Higher Commercial School (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It is a two-storey brick building 9.0 by 7.1 metres under a gabled roof of pantiles, entered from the gable end and facing east.

The base is of granite in regular courses, the walls are in English bond and tall windows are set on all sides (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes that it is the only building surviving from the founding years of the Nagasaki Higher Commercial School, and registered it for its contribution to the historic landscape.

It is owned by Nagasaki University and stands within the Faculty of Economics campus (Agency for Cultural Affairs). The research hall, warehouse and bridge are introduced together on the Former Nagasaki Higher Commercial School page. No official information on visiting the campus was found.
