Jokyoji Temple

Jokyoji is a temple in Kamisanjocho, Nara City, whose late Edo gate and notice board shelter of 1933 face Sanjo-dori; both were registered as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on November 10, 2005 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency notes that both form part of the historic scene of Sanjo-dori.

The Two Structures

The gate is a one-bay yakuimon facing south onto Sanjo-dori, under a gabled roof of hongawara tiles, carved with animals, plants, whorls and clouds on its struts, bracket ends and door panels (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The notice board shelter, west of the front of the gate, is a small one-bay structure with a gabled copper roof on a cut-stone base, its board held by bracket-like blocks (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property and is covered on its own page.

Getting There

Both face Sanjo-dori and can be seen from the street. No official information on visiting the temple was found.
