A Photo Studio with a Glass-Roofed Studio Room
The Kawachi Photo Studio (川地写真館) is a photographer's studio of 1921 in Shinmachi, Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on July 8, 2008 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a timber building of two storeys, partly three, roofed in tile and sheet iron, with a building area of 102 square metres, altered in about 1960 and in 1970; registration number 24-0073.
A Photo Studio on a Corner Site
The Kawachi Photo Studio is a timber building of two storeys, partly three, on a corner site (Agency for Cultural Affairs). It faces the street to the east; a triangular gable rises over the three-storey north-east corner, and small turret-like ornaments mark the corners of the parapet.
The walls are rendered in mortar; the tiling on the lower two floors came with later alterations (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Why It Was Registered
The Agency notes that the original studio room was on the west of the upper floor, with part of its roof glazed for light, and registered the building for its contribution to the historic landscape.
