Ioji Temple
Ioji Temple (医王寺) in Ouchicho Kuroiwa, Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, is a Soto Zen temple whose main hall of 1778 and gate of 1821 became Registered Tangible Cultural Properties on September 10, 2010 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Two Buildings
The main hall faces west at the back centre of the precincts, 15 by 14 metres under a pantiled hip-and-gable roof, a standard Soto Zen hall with a six-room plan and a veranda and earth-floored area across the front (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The gate in front of it is a sturdy one-bay gate with a pantiled gabled roof and a cloud-patterned strut between its rear posts (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each building is described on its own page.
