Koshigaya Hisaizu Shrine Main Hall

A Richly Carved Shrine Hall of 1789

The Koshigaya Hisaizu Shrine Main Hall (越谷久伊豆神社本殿) is a three-bay nagare-zukuri hall decorated with fine carving of 1789 in Koshigaya, Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 13, 2025 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a single-storey timber building with a copper roof and a building area of 34 square metres; registration number 11-0232.

A Three-Bay Hall in Unpainted Carving

The main hall of Koshigaya Hisaizu Shrine, in the centre of Koshigaya, dates from 1789 (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Facing south, it is a three-bay nagare-zukuri hall with a batten-seamed copper roof, with a bracketed veranda on three sides closed by side screens.

It has one-step bracket sets, a double tie-beam gable with a vase-shaped strut, and double rafters (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Fine carving in plain wood adorns the posts, tie beams, beam ends and intervals, making a richly decorated hall.
