A Purification Pavilion Rich in Carving

The Koshigaya Hisaizu Shrine Temizuya (越谷久伊豆神社手水舎) is a carved purification pavilion with cusped gables of the late Edo period in Koshigaya, Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on March 13, 2025 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The Agency records a timber structure with a copper roof and an area of 4.4 square metres, with a water basin; registration number 11-0234.

Splayed Posts and Cusped Gables

The purification pavilion of Koshigaya Hisaizu Shrine stands south of the kagura hall, east of the approach, and dates from the late Edo period (Agency for Cultural Affairs). One bay square, it has a hip-and-gable roof of batten-seamed copper with a cusped gable on each end.

The posts lean inward on all four sides, with one-step bracket sets and double rafters (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Carving everywhere, from dragon beam ends set at an angle and openwork brackets to the tie beams and intervals, joins the cusped gables to give it a splendid look.
