A Farmhouse in the Temple Woods

Suisokuken is a farmhouse moved from the Hida region and set east to west in the woods of Heirinji Temple (Agency for Cultural Affairs). A hearth room spans the full depth of the house, with two rooms on each side.

Why It Was Registered

The Agency notes the stout frame, the adze-finished beams and the forked posts at both gable ends, features of Hida farmhouses, and the fittings that show the early Showa taste for reusing old farmhouses; it was registered as a model of design.
