A Memorial on the Summit of Mount Taikan
The World Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (世界無名戦士之墓) is a three-storey reinforced concrete memorial of 1954 on the summit of Mount Taikan in Ogose, Iruma District, Saitama Prefecture, which in 2020 was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property.
The Agency for Cultural Affairs records a building area of 210 square metres, owned by the World Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Honoring Association and registered for its contribution to the historic landscape.
The Agency describes it as a place of worship built after the war to enshrine the remains of the unidentified dead.
Structure
According to the Agency, it faces east. An ossuary on a quarter-circle plan rises behind a fluted front, with a semicircular worship chamber at the centre.
