Ikuwa Shrine
Ikuwa Shrine (生和神社) in Tobaotsu, Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture, said to have been founded in 1009, keeps two halls designated as Important Cultural Properties: the main hall of the early Muromachi period (1333 to 1392) and the hall of its Kasuga branch shrine of the late Kamakura period (1275 to 1332) (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The main hall was designated an Important Cultural Property on July 31, 1902, and the branch shrine on February 18, 1949, both under the former law (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Both are owned by Ikuwa Shrine.
The Two Halls
Both halls are one-bay nagare-style buildings roofed in cypress bark (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Two ridge tags are designated with the main hall.
The Agency's commentary notes that the branch shrine is smaller than the main hall but older in form and technique, and is thought to predate it. Each building is described on its own page.
