United Church of Christ in Japan Katata Church

The United Church of Christ in Japan Katata Church (日本基督教団堅田教会) in Honkatata, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, has two Registered Tangible Cultural Properties: a church designed by the Vories architectural office and built in 1930, and a brick wall of the same year (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Both were registered on February 17, 1999.

The Two Properties

The church is a two-storey timber building with a single-aisle sanctuary under a king-post roof frame, four Tudor-arched windows on its front and a square tower with a pointed roof on the right (Agency for Cultural Affairs).

The red-brick wall, 15.5 metres long, faces the street that leads to the Katata harbour; kept to 12 courses, it creates an open space before the church entrance (Agency for Cultural Affairs). Each is described on its own page.

Visiting

The church owns both (Agency for Cultural Affairs). No official information on visiting or attending services was found.
