The Fujita Family Residence East Storehouse (藤田家住宅東蔵, Fujita-ke Jūtaku Higashigura) is a single-story dozo-zukuri earthen storehouse from the early Meiji period in Gotsucho, Gotsu City, Shimane Prefecture, and it was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property on January 8, 2009.
It is one of three storehouses on the Fujita lot west of Honmachi-dori, across the street from the main house, and it occupies the northeast corner of that lot. The Fujita Family Residence East Storehouse measures 6.2 meters by 5.0 meters in ketayuki and harima, with a building area of 43 square meters, making it the smallest of the three and the only one with a single story. The database dates it to 1868 to 1911.
A gable end turned to the street
The gabled kirizuma-zukuri roof is laid with red Sekishu tiles. The Fujita Family Residence East Storehouse is built tsumairi, with its entrance on the gable end, and that east gable faces Honmachi-dori squarely. Rather than a long side wall, passers-by see a triangle of red tile over white wall.
The walls are finished in white shikkui plaster. Standing on the corner, this is the storehouse on the west lot that people walking the street actually notice; the north and south storehouses continue behind it.
A geya lean-to runs along the south side, recorded by the Agency for Cultural Affairs as a later addition. The original outline was a plain gabled box, and the lean-to shows how the building was adapted as it stayed in use.
