A Sukiya Reception Wing of Many Woods
The Tozanso Detached Wing (東山荘離れ) is a sukiya-style reception wing linked to the main house of around 1935 in Kasugacho, Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and was registered as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property (structure) on August 1, 2016 (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
The Agency records a single-storey timber building roofed in tiles and partly copper, with a building area of 47 square metres; registration number 22-0225.
A Reception Room of Many Kinds of Log
The detached wing of Tozanso stands east-west at the north end of the site and is linked to the main building by a covered passage; it is a separate wing with a reception room of about fifteen mats and an entrance (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Logs of many kinds of tree are used for the frame and eaves, and the reception room has a boat-bottom ceiling in the centre and woven ajiro ceilings around it, an elegant sukiya design. A bay-window bench and other touches show the house-building trends of the day (Agency for Cultural Affairs).
Why It Was Registered
The Agency registered it as a model of design.
